As you probably know as a fellow Opponaut, it is pretty common within our circles to lambaste automakers for making the lack of driving lights/foglamps blatantly common on base level cars. Case in point: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! Now, just because this is the only example online I could find doesn’t mean there aren’t other articles to prove this point. That’s why today I want to ask to see if we can find some cars where the lack of foglamps is incorporated nicely into the vehicle’s styling. For example:
On the second gen V50, this is the one w/o fogs...
...and here is one with fogs. See? Simple and elegant.
On the other hand, we have this...
What is that hideous little black circle under the headlight? Why do you need to inform us that we’re cheapskates Nissan?
There’s also a second side to this question. Which car has the worst incorporation of foglamps? Some automakers just don’t get it and stick them weirdly everywhere in nonconforming shapes...my example for this one is the ‘08 Odyssey...
Now, this may not seem egregious until you see the pre-facelift version...
Look! The lamps conform to the shape!
So anyways, the question is:
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
and
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
edit: changed post title to “Foglamps” in case there was confusion.

The fog lights are in the bottom grille.

Best omission of fog lights? Mustangs, from ‘05 to ‘14.
Worst addition of fog lights? Mustangs, from ‘05 to ‘14.

Why does the Boss 302 have no foggies and grille blanks where as the GT you can get both. The fog light blanks don’t look bad but those grille blanks look hideous.
Why?!

I’d pay extra to not have LED “enhancements” or any other kind of daytime running light

Yeah, like you mentioned the Odyssey looks much better without them.

Fog lights are integrated into the headlamp cluster. I’m not sure if that counts as an ommision...?

Never seen that Alfa before...what is it? IMO, that can be considered a tasteful ‘omisison’...

Well, I do think the ‘05s looked better with them since they filled the entire space, but the ‘08 were just sort of plastered on parts-bin lights or something...

DRLs are a totally different story...I pretty much agree with that statement.

Totally agreed, though I intended to talk about good examples of omissions in this post lol...

Agree totally on the Bullitt style one as well as the pre-facelift ‘stangs. I thing the 5.0 you posted at the end is far better than some others however...that is to say, it isn’t completely awful...

Best omission of fog lights:
Jetta Hybrid w fogs
Jetta Hybrid w/o fogs
Do I get bonus points for my examples being in the exact same colour?

Yes! +50 for same color! But kidding aside, that’s a pretty similar example to what Volvo was doing with the V50...maybe Europeans are just better at this whole foglight business since they need them more often...

Believe it or not the Stratus did it quite well...
I’ve always been envious of their tail light “accents” too

It’s two fold: cheaper to produce bumpers with the holes cut out, and it forces you to realize you should have sprung for the higher trim

We never got the 2nd gen Stratus in Canada, we were only given the Chrysler Sebring. The Dodge Intrepid was also badged as a Chrysler here so if you wanted a full-size you could have the Intrepid or 300M.

Yeah, I realize that...but the Euro brands have showed that there is a way to do it cheaply and elegantly...

We have to have DRLs here in Canada so we don't even have that option.

I have as well, no specific reason as to why either. They looked good with a little personal touches:
Bonus points for having a nicer interior than any other Chrysler product of its time

Worst addition of fog lights? I nominate the 2012-era Camry XLE:
The shape of the fog lamp doesn’t at all match the shape of the opening in the bumper cover, so there’s plastic chrome trim around the fog lamp, and strakes in the plastic chrome... All I can see is a snaggle-toothed teen waiting to grow into something better (and maybe see an orthodontist).

dons flame suit:
the fog lamps are bigger than the headlights. the headlights are awkward guitar picks just randomly placed in no purpose or fashion. the entire design lacks any legible “face” that look for in cars.
and:
seriously? those lower grills arent even open! why not stick the lights there!?!

That is quite awful by any standards...especially the chrome...it would be less offensive with black plastic mesh...

Yes, that Bimmer is awful...
And while I don’t disagree on the Toyota I do feel like it has a face, just one like a walrus or something with tusks on either side of the mouth and closed eyes...
Looks weird with all lights on though...
